Brookdale Cognitive Health
Support for seniors and their caregivers.

Our Brookdale Cognitive Health Center offers structured groups to help individuals with early memory loss, as well as mild to moderate stage dementia. We also offer support and respite for caregivers.

Brookdale Dementia Respite Support Program
Our Brookdale Dementia Respite Program is the only crucial service of its kind in Collier and southern Lee Counties.

There are now over 22,000 older adults living with dementia in Naples, and a new case of Alzheimer’s disease is diagnosed every 66 seconds in our country.

Clients can attend up to two groups per week, taking place Monday through Friday from 10:30am – 2:30pm. Dedicated caregivers receive much needed respite while their loved ones are participating in a safe and stimulating structured group setting.

Brookdale Foundation’s National Group Respite Program serves as the evidence-based model for how respite groups are organized and the types of engagement that occurs within the groups. The focus is on language skills, reduction of anxiety, decreasing agitation, reminiscense, socialization, self-esteem, and overall cognitive support.

Art and music therapy are utilized during groups to promote wellness and redirection, along with enhancing social skills. Dakim Brain Fitness, a computer program designed to help users with focus, attention, and concentration, is used to promote brain health and team building within the group. Daily chair exercises and gross motor activities keep individuals active and moving throughout for overall physical wellness.

Support Groups for Caregivers
We offer support groups for caregivers of loved ones struggling with dementia. The groups are facilitated by licensed clinical social workers. We also provide intensive caregiver trainings and family socials to help our individuals and families gain the strength and self-esteem to keep moving forward.

Early Memory Loss Group – Brain Joggers
Our early memory loss group serves as an opportunity to share practical advice and coping skills, as well as to discuss feelings, concerns, and frustrations for individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), undiagnosed memory changes, and similar circumstances.

The objective of the program is to stimulate thinking and memory and learn helpful tools that attendees can use in their own lives. The program includes discussions that focus on topics such as “right brain vs. left brain,” stress management and real-life concerns that individuals are facing. Language skills, memory techniques, relaxation techniques, socialization, and building self-esteem are areas of concentration.

Our nine-week program meets weekly on Tuesdays from 11am-3pm. Advanced registration is required via a formal assessment with the Cognitive Health staff. Commitment to the nine weeks is strongly advised to gain full benefits.
