Dementia Respite Support Program

Baker Senior Center Naples offers weekly support groups for individuals with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders in Naples. The program is offered Monday through Friday from 10:30 – 2:30 and clients can come up to twice a week. Advanced registration is required via a formal assessment with the Cognitive Health staff.

The Brookdale Foundation’s National Group Respite Program serves as the model as to how the respite groups are organized and the types of engagement that are done within the groups. The focus of the groups is on language skills, long-term memory recall, socialization, self-esteem, and overall cognitive stimulation.

Creative arts therapies such as art and music therapy are utilized during groups to promote wellness and redirection, along with enhancing social skills. Dakim Brain Fitness, a computer program which was designed to help users with focus, attention, and concentration, is used to promote brain health and team building within the group. Daily chair exercises and gross motor activities keep clients active and moving throughout for overall physical wellness.

Baker Senior Center Naples offers weekly and monthly programs designed to provide resources and support, education and social engagement opportunities for caregivers of family members with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Our goal is to reduce the isolation of this experience and bring together a community of support and resources.

Among services offered are a Weekly Caregiver Support Group and Quarterly Intensive Caregiver Training (Bootcamp)

Early Memory Loss Group

Our early memory loss group serves as an opportunity for individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), undiagnosed memory changes, and similar circumstances the chance to share practical advice and coping skills, as well as to discuss feelings, concerns, and frustrations.

The program is a nine weeklong program that meets weekly on Tuesdays from 11:00 – 2:00. Advanced registration is required via a formal assessment with the Cognitive Health staff and a commitment to the nine weeks is strongly advised to gain full benefits.

The objective of the program is to stimulate thinking and memory and learn helpful tools that clients can then use in their own lives. The program includes discussions that focus on topics such as “right brain vs. left brain”, stress management and real-life concerns that clients are facing. Language skills, memory techniques, relaxation techniques, socialization and building self-esteem are areas of concentration.

I can’t tell you how fortunate we feel to have found this program…it has been a real blessing.”   ~ Mrs. S. about her husband, who regularly attends the program.
